Bar of the Day Ontario
Super Bowl Soirees
February 2, 2011

So the Jets dropped the ball on the AFC Championship (again) and the Giants, well let’s just forget this season…ever…happened. Just because NYC doesn’t have a home team in the Super Bowl doesn’t mean you have to watch the game from home. If open bars, unlimited BBQ feasts, free giveaways and free shots aren’t enough to lure you out, well then you probably don’t like football (or fun). For the rest of you Cheeseheads, members of Steeler Nation, football fans, foodies, commercial addicts and boozehounds alike, have we got a bar for you…

- Alexandra Calamari
IF YOU’RE A STEELERS FAN...TRY:
If you’re the type of walking encyclopedia that knows that the Steelers actually used to be called the Pirates and that they’ve won 6 of 7 Super Bowl’s thus far, then head to the East Village’s
Angel’s & Kings starting at 3pm for Steelers' Trivia. Master categories like The Steelers, So You Think You Know Pittsburgh, Famous Western Pennsylvanians and More Steelers, for the chance at $100. Then stay for the game where Iron City and Iron City 16oz Keg Cans are just $5 ($7 with a shot!), Punk’n Ale’s $4, and a Pittsburgh-inspired menu will be served all day. Fans can also wave their Terrible Towels at The Mean Fiddler, who will have $4 Iron City and Yuengling beers as well as "The Famous Steeler Cocktail" for $5. Eastsiders can head to Irish Exit for 50 cent wings, 50 cent pierogis and $3 domestics (including Iron City).
IF YOU’RE A PACKERS FAN…TRY:
If you’re a Cheesehead and you’re not watching the game in Dallas, you’re going to be fighting to get into
Kettle of Fish. Recognized as the best place to watch a Packers game outside of Lambeau Field, Kettle of Fish has had a longstanding tradition with Green Bay fans. Get there early for complimentary cheese, crackers and sausage, then order up an Usinger Brat, and get ready to chant, “Go! You Packers, Go!” pretty much the whole time you’re there.
IF YOU WANT TO DRINK ALL YOU WANT TO DRINK…TRY:
Those looking for unlimited food and drinks can park at
Hudson Station where $80 will get you a top shelf open bar during the entire game, appetizers through the first quarter, and a big buffet at halftime. Shell out $45 at Stone Street Tavern in the FiDi and from 6pm till the end of the game you’ll enjoy unlimited draft beer and wine, and 25 cent wings all night long. There’s a $50 open bar option at The Three Monkeys (all game longreservations only) and at SNAP from 3pm-6pm (which also secures entry to the bar for the game). Those willing to fork over $150 for a table at SNAP will score an open bar from 3pm till the end of the game and an assortment of food platters all game long. For $50 enjoy unlimited apps and drinks at Social, or spring for their $75 VIP Tailgate Ticket—you'll get to meet former Giants players, get complimentary signed autographed photos, enjoy a large buffet and drinks, and be automatically entered into a killer raffle! And for those of you who want to put the bowl in Super Bowl, head to Bowlmor Lanes for unlimited bowling, shoe rental, draft beers and a light buffet ($64 Times Square, $44 Union Square).
IF YOU PUT THE FOODIE IN FOOTBALL…TRY:
Yes, wings and nachos are the standard Super Bowl fare, but if you’re looking for something slightly more sophisticated this year, try one of these locations.
SD26 is offering up a wine bar and buffet for $100, which includes unlimited wine, beer, and Italian snacks like Porchetta, Pasta with Tomato and Basil, and Lasagna Bolognese. Get your BBQ on at Southern Hospitality, where $75 scores you a premium open bar lasting from kick-off until the final whistle, an all-you-can-eat BBQ Feast, and shot specials for fans in Jets, Green Bay or Pittsburgh jerseys. If you’re in Queens, slip over to MexiQ Kitchen & Draught, where $3 beer specials and free team-colored shots for touchdowns are accompanied by the $32 Appetizer Tasting featuring Classic Guacamole, Achiote BBQ Wings, Ceviche Flight, and Truffled Mac and Cheese ($32). Brooklyn’s Fatty ‘Cue has a platter of their own for $29 (wings, Meat Hook Brats, potato skins), along with $3 PBRs. And since this is still the Lunar New Year, celebrate both occasions at Macao Trading Co, who will be broadcasting the big game on their own 10x10 movie screen and serving up a special menu featuring Cantonese chicken wings, The PBLT (Pork Belly, Lettuce and Tomato Sandwich), Crispy Yukon Potatoes with Curry Aioli, and the Grilled 8oz Burger with Portuguese Pimiento Cheese.
IF YOU WANT YOUR SUPER BOWL TO BE SUPER CHEAP…TRY:
If you’ve already dropped all your excess cash in your company box pool, you might considering heading to
Perdition, where they’re offering $4 pints of Coors Light, $7 16oz Bloody Mary's, and free t-shirts, cozies and food at halftime. At Murray Hill favorite Van Diemens, $25 gets you all-you-can-drink Bud/Bud Light and Coors Lite with an order of wings for the duration of the game. Astoria folks can saunter out to the Bohemian Beer Garden, where $25 gets you unlimited pints of Bass Ale & Stella, with a complimentary half-time buffet and 50 cent wings. If you like the sound of the wings but don’t want to make the trip to Queens, Hype Lounge has 50 cent wings, $10 pitchers of draft beer and $15 buckets (5 beers). Meanwhile, Traffic Bar is offering $12 pitchers, and a $30 special which includes a bucket of beers and a bucket of 30 wings. See, you don’t have to be a baller to watch some football!
