Season's Eatings

Clockwise from upper left: Ditch Plains, Telepan, Heartland Brewery
Ah, autumn. New England has the changing leaves, couch potatoes have the new fall line-up, the rest of America has football, and we nerdy food-obsessed New Yorkers have...seasonal menus inspired by the harvest! It's time to part ways with your burger and lemonade, and these fall-minded restaurants will help you do it.
Telepan: The menu at Telepan changes more often than the story line on "Lost" and this fall is no different. Chef Bill Telepan is serving up buttersquash gnocchi with wild mushrooms, apples stuffed with foie gras, and a medley of autumn veggies soup-style. 72 W. 69th St. (Central Park W. & Columbus Ave.), Upper West Side, 212.580.4300
Goblin Market: Newly opened Goblin Market didn't waste any time pumping up their brief menu with market specials. Parpadelle is dressed with wild mushrooms, beets are roasted for salads, and diners can warm up from the cold with carrot soup served with dill creme fraiche. 199 Prince St. (Sullivan & MacDougal Sts.), SoHo, 212.375.8275
Heartland Brewery: Sure the food is good, but we don't visit Heartland Brewery for the fries. Doing what they do best, their hearty harvest beer menu includes the ever-popular Smiling Pumpkin Ale (available thru November) and getting ready for the holidays here means pints of Old Red Nose (December-January). 350 5th Ave. (@ Empire State Bldg.), Midtown, 212.563.3433
Ditch Plains: A rotating line-up of soups and sandwiches will take the place of summery seafood salads at urban fish shack Ditch Plains. Fried calamari is kicked up with spicy tomato sauce and lobster rolls are partnered with sweet potato chips, sour cream, and apple pie. Fall fruits are put to good use in the blueberry and apple crumble on hand for dessert. 29 Bedford St. (@ Downing St.), West Village, 212.633.0202
Rose Water: Chestnuts adorn a mixed market green salad, while chanterelle mushrooms make up the lasagna and Catskill rainbow trout is fried and served with spaghetti squash at Rose Water, where seasonal and organic ingredients complement the laid-back ambience. 787 Union St. (5th & 6th Aves.), Park Slope, 718.783.3800
