| Choose a theme that’s fun and easy to pull off. If you give your friends direction, you’re less likely to end up eating beef stroganoff and cucumber rolls in the same meal. Opt for straightforward Italian, Mediterranean, French, Mexican, or American BBQ. Or give them wackier suggestions, such as “Mix It Up” (everyone brings their favorite dish and a mix CD to swap); “Hello Full Moon” (no, not that full moon, but everything has to be round—a tip from Potluck at Midnight Farm by Tamara Weiss); “You Sexy Thing” (for Valentine’s Day; everything is heart-shaped and/or an aphrodisiac); or “Nuke it!” (everything is cooked in the microwave).
