The Bourgeois Pig
111 E. 7th St. (1st Ave. & Ave. A)
East Village 212.475.2246
Cheese me, baby. This intimate, gothic bordello-themed bôite is the perfect place to seal the deal with that hottie you’ve been seeing. Order a steaming, bubbling bowl of herb-studded mozzarella, provolone, parmesan, and romano, dip in some rosemary potatoes, and slowly feed them to the object of your affection.
La Cave des Fondus
20 Prince St. (Elizabeth & Mott Sts.)
NoLita 212.966.5073
Down a flight of stairs and beyond a heavy wooden door lies a den of fondue quirkiness within a sort of medieval tavern. Want to sit on the side of the table that faces out? Just climb over. If you can deal with the of repulsive rubber nipple (we couldn’t), you can sip your wine from a baby bottle. Oh yeah, and they serve fondue here—classic cheese, a beef broth variety, and the chocolate sort for dessert. It’s a rollicking place to kick off an evening on the town with a pack of easy-going pals. Hey, if they let you climb over the tables, maybe they’ll let you dance on the tables…
La Bonne Soupe
48 W. 55th St. (5th & 6th Aves.)
Midtown West 212.586.7650
This Midtown institution serves up classic fondue and French bistro fare in a friendly, casual setting. The next time you’re at a loss for good places to go in Midtown, bring the family here before the show at Radio City for a meal that’ll warm you up and go easy on your wallet.
The Hill
416 3rd Ave. (29th & 30th Sts.)
Murray Hill 212.481.1712
The fondue restaurant formerly known as Dip has been transformed into an unabashed, noisy bi-level sports bar with the requisite food to go with it. But the cheese remains! Here the fondue is of the cheddar variety and comes with a side of raw veggies and bread. When the fondue arrives the din of the four TVs on the wall in front of you melts away as you dive into the molten pot of pleasure. Score!
