| Named after the Spanish term for “Mexican party juice” (okay, we made that up), the mighty Margarita has been making bottom-shelf tequila drinkable for generations. Nowadays, there are some lovely 'ritas being made, as several city spots are infusing the summer staple with higher quality hooch and unexpected flavors. Others have proudly mastered the classic recipe with the sole goal of getting you goofy. Here are some go-to places for a great salt-rim job. |

Las Chicas Locas
160 W. 25th St. (6th and 7th Aves.)
Chelsea
212.337.8301
You’ll be crazy about the signature Blushing Chica (pictured), featuring agave nectar and, yes, a touch of Merlot. It’s one upmarket margarita, and the perfect complement to a night of romantic Latin ambience. |

Toloache
251 W. 50th St. (@ 8th Ave.)
Midtown
212.581.1818
The choices here read like the produce aisle at Whole Foods: hibiscus, prickly pear, cucumber, jícama. But these aren’t just specialty flavors—they’re the active ingredients of a Mexican love potion. |

Mexican Radio
19 Cleveland Pl. # A (@ Kenmare St.)
NoLita
212.343.0140
The drink names can get a little cute…you may need a couple of “Short Waves” before you muster the panache to order one by name. But the ingredients are fresh and the results go down smooth; these 'ritas are much-loved for a reason. |

Elote
366 Union Ave. (@ Powers St.)
Williamsburg
718.599.2655
Locals are divided on the food, but all agree the hand-muddled margs, low prices ($5 and up) and comfortable backyard make it a top-notch summer hangout. It’s a popular spot with “los hipsters.” |

Tortilla Flats
767 Washington St.
(@ W. 12th St.)
West Village 212.243.1053
A rollicking spot with festive drinks to match. The place even has a booth dedicated to gap-toothed 50s movie star Ernest Borgnine (Ernie was said to be floored)...makes you wonder how many pitchers it took to come up with that one. |
