Take Two and Call Me: Cold Remedy Drinks
January 14, 2009
Your grand plan for detox 2009 has probably already fallen apart, leaving you run down and more than a little sickly. Sure, the bar may not be the best place to recover, but with so many places touting the health benefits of their cocktails, isn’t it worth a shot? Have a go at these cold remedy drinks that pack the one-two punch of fighting your cold and getting you buzzed.

Rojito @ GustOrganics
2 oz. Tru Organic Vodka
4 oz. fresh squeezed orange juice
1 oz. Loft Organic triple sec
Dash of agave syrup
5 fresh strawberries, hulled
Blend all ingredients with ice for 30 seconds. Pour into martini glass and garnish with a fresh strawberry.

The Presbyterian @ Weather Up
2 oz. rye
½ oz. lime juice
¾ oz. ginger simple syrup
Combine ingredients in a shaker.  Pour into a Collins glass with ice and top with soda.

Blueberry Tea à la Shecky’s
We’ve updated this traditional recipe for the new wave of teas hitting the stores. Honeydrop Tea, now sold at Whole Foods, is sweetened with honey to give you an extra boost of antibiotics and alleviate a sore throat or cough.
1 oz. Grand Marnier liqueur
1 oz. Amaretto liqueur
¾ c. Deluxe Honeydrop Bee Calm Tea
Lemon
Heat the tea until steaming in the microwave. Add both liqueurs to a snifter and then fill with tea to taste. Garnish with a thin slice of lemon.

Green Tea Martini @ Bongo
4 oz. Charbay Organic Green Tea Vodka
1 oz. Hakutsura Dry Sake
Cucumber
Shake the first two ingredients over ice and serve straight up in a frozen glass. Garnish with a cucumber slice.

The Woody Guthrie @ Dumont
If a hot toddy is your craving, Williamsburg’s Dumont has 5 on their menu, including this one.
2 oz. Rittenhouse Rye
2oz. apricot liqueur
1 dried apricot
Splash of lemon juice
Tablespoon of honey
Combine ingredients in glass and fill with hot water. Stir and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
