230 Fifth
Oh, the irony: One of the city’s contenders for best outdoor bar is also one of the worst indoor lounges. After flashing your ID to the doorman at 230 5th Ave., head to the rear elevator bank, ride it up to the 20th floor, and peer into the enormous purple-hued, casino-like indoor bar. Now bypass it—and the tourist-packed crowd, their kids (!), and the bartenders who have the face of Brad Pitt but the IQ of Jessica Simpson--and take the stairs to the outdoor deck, which is, in a word, incredible. Wood-plank floors and quaint garden statues serve as décor to this huge space, but the main event is the 360-degree view—heck, you could probably hit the Empire State Building with the olive from your pricey martini. The ’80s tunes leave much to be desired (Tiffany?!), but frankly, the outdoor space is so breathtaking that they could be playing Charo and you wouldn’t mind. Open daily 4pm-4am.

Nice view.... HORRIBLE STAFF/ SERVICE

I wanted to celebrate my birthday here because of the view but the experience was terrible. It was a reservation for 12 people, everybody upstairs waiting for me with 2 bottles and they wouldn't let me because arguing is consider "extremely rude" by the doorman. Either the hostess miscounted the guests from my party or simply they were double-charging at the entrance (disregarding the fact that there's a previously made reservation). Was I supposed to just pay downstairs for something I already have upstairs without arguing about it?? All because their "system" doesn't work and the staff is incompetent. The hostess and doorman really believe themselves to be some sort of gods, flawless but hello!!! NO WAY!! It's such a shame that so nice space is overwhelmed with so useless people. Definitely not going back!!

Bad Drinks, Bad Service, Bad Staff, what else can I say....

Used to be a good place at one one time but I went there last week with 7 of my friedns - we were made to buy two bottle service worth $500 but still had a very bad experience with the sevice and hospitality. First off, the drinks were the worst I have ever had, even just coke and sprite were not tasting good - as if they have been kept outside in the open for days and served. The service was terrible - our waitress took about 30 minutes to get the drinks every single time. And the bouncers were even worse - rude, disrescpectful and pushy. I had such a bad experience that I would never go back to this so called "CLUB" and would never recommend it to any of my friends - I would rather do the opposite.

timing is everything

e went on a summer monday evening. The service was efficient and friendly. The drinks were adequate and priced NY average. The view "priceless". Perhaps choosing a non-weekend evening is the key. We will come back.

230 Fifth Segregates it's Patrons

There's nothing wrong with their policy, except they apply it randomly at their discretion. When there are dress codes, it has to be applicable to everyone. What we experienced is an act of prejudicial segregation based on either race, ethnicity, sex, or creed. And by definition, businesses open to the general public cannot discriminate, and if they do so, it is against the law and most importantly, fine-able and threatens their liquor license, which puts them out of business. I would support action against this establishment as there are already too many establishments in NYC that are violating this law, as it is. If we take no action, we will only encounter more of these establishments in the future. I had to leave because they wouldn't let my friends in (who were dressed properly, but black).

I went to 230 Fifth this past weekend. And I must say the place is gorgeous. Only thing is I think the rain killed the event because the place was empty. When we walked outside no one could give us the right information for getting the red robes and we were wearing dresses so we were a bit cold. We finally got them and were happy. The patio is beautiful the drinks aren't bad but the music wasn't too versatile.

I have to say while the view may be nice, this place is probably the worst run venue i've been to. The doorman with the hat is such a tool and thinks hes gods gift. For a group of 6, there is no way there should be a 4 bottle minimum. Oh and then telling us sorry thats the rules here, get a life. Oh and i forgot the one prevoius time i was forced to go here, the bartenders said we were to loud and would not serve us.. umm excuse me? We're at a bar .. maybe you should become a librarian.

So, first off when I got there the door guy was stopping me because I have embroidery on my shirt.
“sorry, no pattern or logo allow” I get in anyway, but that was the first I heard such a retard door rule.
Then we get our champaign serve in old scatchy plastic flute that look like unwash glass. WTF! I understand the plastic cup for rooftop bar, but when it look like trash throw it away and get a new one. the crowd was also looking pretty sad. I gave two stars for the view but that all this place get.

I think born and bred New Yorkers will see past the pretension that the establishment is trying so hard to exhibit. A rooftop bar should be laid back and about good company, good drinks, and a nice breeze. The hostess downstairs had a fake accent, for god's sake. The crowd was mostly bridge and tunnel, the "see and be seen" type; if that's what you're into, by all means go. I had a margarita that was 2/3 sour mix, so the bartenders definitely need to step it up. Worth checking out but not revisiting. Transplants and hipsters will love it for all these reasons, I'm sure.

Overrated and overcrowded. It may have a great view, but the service is pathetic. I will never come here again.

my husband and i went there expecting this to be an awesome spot. the line was around the corner so we figured hey this might be good. if you got bottle service you got to skip ahead to the front of the line and to the top. so we did it. needless to say the $300 we paid for the bottle service was so not worth it. you walk in to the lounge...very purple btw, up the stairs to the rooftop which was so fricken packed you could hardly move.. walked to our seats which seemed like miles to an are where there were nothing but tons of geeky tech guys with all these girls around them( buying them drinks of course) the music was muffled 80's crap.it was aweful... it had potential but the crowd was so lame but the view was awesome
