On a first casual glance through its welcoming windows, 2 Rivers seems like a classic dive. That’s a deceitful disguise, perhaps intended to keep the trendoids away. Take a closer look inside this gastro-pub, and its stylish side emerges. It’s all in the details: rich red walls and draperies, funky mustard vinyl booth benches, and jazzy prints adorning the walls. Locals hit up this chill spot for modestly priced beer, wine, and cocktails, and priceless conversation. Cozy up to the long wooden bar and chances are your neighbor might be happy to chew the fat—or some sweet & spicy Buffalo wings—over a brewsky or seven. Open Mon.-Thu. 12-10pm, Fri. 12-11pm, Sat. 2-10pm.
I wandered into Two Rivers for lunch during the week and found not only amazing food, but the most hospitable, pleasant staff (waiters, owners, even regulars). I got a free dessert via a conversation with the owner and he later informed me that at the bar, your third drink is always free! I'm definitely going back to check out the evening scene. A really great and unusually warm experience for Manhattan.
