Perched “above” the modernist-chic hotel 6 Columbus (and basking in the light of the Time Warner Center and the CNN sign), Above 6 is a welcome addition to New York’s rooftop real estate. The third New York location by the Above veterans behind Above Allen and Above 60, the highlight of this sleek and steel-inspired space is, of course, the retractable roofed terrace. We’ve come to expect rooftop lounges to be filled with less-than-desirables—bankers with expense accounts, annoying haircuts, bad pick-up lines...and the women that love them—but Above 6 is surprisingly small and cozy, their comfy sofas packed with a pleasant, mature crowd. Couples and small groups enjoy a Blue Ribbon-mixologist-designed summer cocktail (the St. Germain-heavy Hummingbird or the citric Siberian Sunrise, $12) or numerous prestigious wine, sake and spirit options. A short elevator ride and a slightly intimidating door is all that’s between you and warm-weather nirvana.
