Well if the Alma Mater ("mother goddess") was actually a tattooed bridge-and-tunnel girl, then Williamsburg’s newly-opened Alma Lounge may have proven both Christian and Roman mythology very wrong. At Alma the only things that matter are the amount of gel in your hair, how high you can tease it, and how short you can hike a leopard print dress. The abrasively-booming music is usually spun by a DJ, but don't bother requesting a song because he either cannot hear you or he does not care. At the very least, Alma provides ample boogie room, with a large first level and stairs leading up to a cage-like terrace for those who enjoy top 40 hits. It’s ironic that Williamsburg, once hailed for its counter-culture, is now regressing to a generic bottle service discotheque…don’t they know that’s soooooo two years ago?
