Anejo Tequileria y Restaurante:
Eventually, every pop star will have won a singing competition, every overweight person will have gotten skinny by being yelled at on network TV...and every restaurant will be run by a former Top Chef contestant. So brings us Angelo Sosa’s (Top Chef All-Stars, no less!) new-age Mexican restaurant with long communal tables and bright Day of the Dead murals on the wall befit for an old pair of Jams shorts. Now your average rube only knows a few tequilas, and only because they were promoted by Sammy Hagar or Turtle from Entourage, but Anejo offers an amazing 40 to 50 (plus mezcal and sotol) in small pours or nine-oz. carafes sided by sangrita, citrus and spiced salt. If cocktails are more your bag, they offer such beauties as the Blood & Smoke ($12) and Mexican Firing Squad ($10). The stuff to sop up the booze (also known as: food) is likewise splendid, “pequenos” plates like braised queso ($11) and “sopes” ($12) and numerous tacos and tamales spanning the entire veggie and meat spectrum ($9-13). Hey, maybe all of life should be decided by reality competition!
