In trying financial times such as these, who has the funds to head to the south of France? Most of us can still scrounge together enough for subway fare, though, and lucky for us, a MetroCard is all you need to reach the Mediterranean coast these days! Antibes has brought with it all the romantic whimsy of its sunny beachside namesake and some of its best wines, too (featuring bottles from $27-$78). Dine peckishly (like the French do?) on an appetizer like country duck paté ($8) and keep your billfold grounded with the physically (not fiscally) heavy entrée, chicken under brick ($16). Wash it all down with one of their champagne cocktails like the Lolita (sparkling wine, guava puree and fresh mint, $6) or relax with an imported beer ($6-$8). A night at Antibes lets you enjoy the crème de la crème without making your wallet sigh “ooh la la!”
