Aria:
Nowadays, wine bars are as plentiful as bad '80s movie remakes, but the newly opened Aria is not your typical viticulture spot—wine comes in 4-ounce glasses seemingly borrowed from the diner down the street, the bar is covered in unassuming white tiles and the bathroom doesn’t even have a mirror. Gasp! A wine bar not concerned with the looks of its patrons? Aria has an organic groove (not concerning the origin of its wine list) and makes sipping on Cote du Rhone a pass-time instead of a connoisseur competition. The owner, chef Robert Passon, is passionate about providing regulars and passersby alike with a fun environment, where you can snack on some tapas straight from a charcuterie (no warm menu items available due to some installation issues), while tasting a list of great wines (rotating daily and projected onto a chalkboard…very cool). So far, the interactive environment (even including a fun chalkboard in the bathroom), leads us to believe that Aria will be a Greenwich favorite.
