It’s nice to take a break from the sports bar, Irish pub drudgery that is often the Upper East Side nightlife scene. The trouble is, if you want to stay uptown, you haven’t got many options. But Auction House is one of them. This bar/lounge replete with couches, drapes, antique chandeliers, and soft candlelight is a cross between a living room and a saloon, and the effect is at once romantic and laid-back. While it’s always a good spot for a late-night snog, Auction House is also perfect for an after-work drink and a view of whatever game is on the telly. Come on in to escape the slovenly crowds at the beer pong joints around the way. Open daily 7:30pm-4am.
