Aurora Brooklyn:
Standing out amidst the surrounding industrial buildings, Aurora seems more suited for San Fran than South Williamsburg, with its ivy covered exterior and heavy wooden door. Swing by for their Aperitivi Hour (which is actually two hours: 5pm-7pm daily) and enjoy a variety of complimentary snacks, like flatbread, fried chickpeas and frittatas to accompany your drinks. Meanwhile you can score a quartino of wine for the price of a glass or dive into one of their specialty cocktails–some, like the Italian Kir Royale (the standard with blueberry puree) are only six dollars. The average price was $11, but it feels justified after trying their Aperol Spritz (Aperol, prosecco and a splash of soda), the perfect cocktail for a summer afternoon. Just don't expect a wild party…the drinks are for sipping not chugging, and that seems to suit Aurora's refined clientele just fine. The spot hasn’t quite been discovered by Williamsburg’s twenty-somethings yet, likely because everything from the warm brick interior to the well-dressed crowd (suit jackets...in Williamsburg?) gives the space an unintentional air of exclusivity. The service can be spotty but (fortunately) the food is consistent, and an ivy covered garden provides a perfect haven for a date or a brunch with friends.
