Standing out amidst the barrage of nightlife venues in New York City can be a bit tricky…sure you could always adopt an over-the-top design scheme (16-foot Buddhas come to mind) or a stringent door policy (pretty much every MPD club), but those moves are bordering on cliché nowadays. Enter B.E.S. (a.k.a. Boutique Eat Shop), one of the most revolutionary restaurant/bar hybrids to hit Gotham in years. Brought you courtesy of nightlife innovator Patrick Duffy, the small but highly-curated space across from the West Side Highway (smack dab in the art gallery mecca) looks and feels like the residence of that cool, artsy friend you always wished you had. Except in this case, you can take a seat under the wine bottle chandelier and order a Patrick III ($13) made from cava, gin, grapefruit juice and elderflower, and just watch as your cool factor automatically rises. Drag queens, artists, fashionistas and handsome bow-tie wearing gays mingle in the warm space filled with commissioned installations and artwork from local galleries. It’s just like being at a housewarming party, only one where you can't outstay your welcome.
