Any discussion of this karaoke bar is going to involve its owner Ray, who is quick to stress that Baby Grand deals in "grown-up karaoke." (Actual quote: "The juice ain't worth the squeeze for the young'ns.") This means there are rules. (1) Only one person sings at a time (aside from actual duets). (2) Ray personally adjusts the sound levels. Sure it resonates kind of control-freak-esque, but the good news is that due to the size and the restrictions of the room, you'll be spared the usual impatient audience of over-worked bankers and their underdressed companions. And here's another twist: occasional acoustic karaoke with a live band or guitarist (Velvet Underground at last!) Even the surroundings here cater to the sophisticate in you. Look for highly-finished, ultra-modern décor, rotating art shows and innovative cocktails worthy of the finest mixologist (like the vodka and chai-liqueur based White Afghan, $10) . "Love Shack" never sounded so good.
