Bar Martignetti: CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS. Bar Martignetti is the kind of expensive SoHo brasserie where, once you get past the sight of so many trust-funded prepsters in sweater sets, you can have a fine night out. The open-air design and French countryside décor set the stage for decadent lobster clubs ($23) and New York strips ($27). When a dish misses the mark, however, like the “Best Mac ‘n Cheese Ever” ($10), the prices seem glaringly inflated. The bar’s $11-$12 cocktails, ranging from classics like the Sidecar to exotic concoctions like the Jane Collins (Pravda vodka, lemon syrup, fresh blackberries), are a similar gamble—let’s just say they taste much better when a preppy Connecticut boy buys them for you. After dinner, descend to Bella’s, the downstairs bar named after the owners’ pit bull, and blow off some steam like the beautiful people do. |
