Bar'rique Varietals & Kitchen: According to The New College French & English Dictionary, Second Edition, “barrique” means “cask; hogshead, large barrel.” It therefore follows that the new so-named eatery on Bleecker Street is also a wine bar. And though a hogshead is a large container of liquid, it is also, in the literal sense, part of the décor at Bar’rique, which includes a long, marble-topped bar, leather banquettes, stools at raised tables, and a mounted, smiling boar’s head perched over the semi-open kitchen. Executive Chef Scott Crombie is serving up a full dinner menu featuring elevated pub fare like a goat cheese soufflé and the Bar’rique Burger (served with tickler cheddar, pickled vegetables, bibb lettuce and fries). Beyond the food, the thirty-somethings are here for wine, and with a varied list of nearly 50 by the glass ($8-$27) and over 50 by the bottle ($28-$750), wine they shall have. Worry not, beer drinkers, there are six options on tap for you ($6.50-$9). Keep your intake below a hogshead, and you should fit right in.
