Barberry:
Chef Diego Gonzales is no newcomer to 152 Metropolitan Ave. in Williamsburg: he was the chef at the location's former Spanish restaurant Zipi Zape and will be taking the helm at its newest reincarnation, Barberry (which, despite the images of tartan its name may conjure, serves Mediterranean food). Signature dishes include grilled sardines, frisée salad with honey-roasted walnuts, and chocolate souflée—although the typical burgers, sandwiches, and steaks are also on the menu. Most importantly, the full bar is well-stocked enough to keep customers coming back.
Based on my friend recommendation I have went to Barberry with my fiance. After reading bad reviews from yelp and excellent reviews from Newyork magazine and zagat I was quite puzzled. But I knew my best friend taste in food I wanted to give a shot. What a bless. We decided to order scallop carpaccio and octopus carpaccio.I decided to order mustard crusted tuna and my fiance decided to order grilled sword fish.We were so amazed. This restaurant is not for hipsters. If you are food guru it is the right place for you.We will go back for sure.

I give this place a star only because I feel sorry for the servers. Today a group of us ate there for their restaurant week menu. Only a few things we ordered were worth mentioning. My entree tasted like hot garbage so I asked to swap it out for something else. At 7PM one of the entree's I had chose on the menu they had apparently "ran out of". After the owner actually approached me and yelled at me for not understanding what a polenta was and that I HAD to eat the salmon as my only other option. She actually told me what I had to eat.... It was astounding!! Especially, that this was the owner talking to me like this. She embarrassed her wait staff and everyone at the table. There is no way that this place can survive with people like this running the place. The food is overpriced and hit or miss. The staff is unorganized and poorly managed by an arrogant and disgusting married couple who have no clue how to run a restaurant. From the baguettes which tasted like they had been in someone's sweatpants for a few days to their overpriced entree's this place is a NO GO....
