There are few bars in this city—and likely the country—quite like Barbes. The bar has such a solid European feel to it that even the bartenders drawl out orders in thick French accents, and live music performances in the back space always belt out funky, fresh tunes in a different language. With little room to sit, the space feels like the overstuffed cafés of Paris, except everyone inside is almost too New York for New York, hence it’s in Park Slope. Barbes isn’t a place for a first date, but it will definitely impress your cultured other half on the third or fourth round.
