Bathtub Gin: Enjoy all the stealth of Prohibition without resorting to a bathtub gin home-brew (ah, now we get it!). Waltz into a tiny coffee shop, then slink through its hidden door to travel back in time to a place with flapper-styled waitresses, cozy booths and one pretty obvi homage to the Boardwalk Empire days: a life-size copper bathtub in the center of the room. The menu here leans modern, featuring New-American plates like mango BBQ tuna ($24) and lobster-stuffed mushrooms ($19). The Bathtub Gin Dry Martini (made with gin from a bottle, mind you) is a delicious classic, but more mixology-happy drinks abound, too—try the aptly-named Melancholy Punch (light and amber rums, falernum, fresh pineapple juice, fresh lime juice, fresh ginger extract, black cardamom, cane syrup and chilled Perrier, $15). While DIY s’mores may seem out of place in the antique setting, the mini fire brought to your table certainly harkens back to a time before microwaves…and if the flames get out of hand, well, that’s what the tub is for.
