Battery Gardens: On a summer evening in the city, this indoor/outdoor Riverside spot is a little slice of heaven—which is fitting, considering it’s about as hard to get into. Yes, as a walk-in, you might have to wait, but once you experience its waterfront breeze, exceptional fare and the visible twinkle in nearby Lady Liberty’s eye, you won’t regret a moment of it. Spend your earthly dollars on fancy (and accordingly pricey) divine eats like hot sautéed duck foie gras ($22), mushroom risotto ($22) and miso-glazed Chilean sea bass ($34). Thankfully, there are also options for the less financially blessed, including a $35 three-course prix fixe (available only in summer) and $4 drafts from the affordable grill menu, available in their outdoor beer garden during the day. But if you’re looking to augment a romantic Saturday evening with lantern-lit trees, harp accompaniment and abso-freaking-lutely amazing food, be sure to make a sacrifice to the gods of OpenTable (and/or your bank account) before strolling up to these pearly…er, wrought iron...gates.
