Bearded Lady Bar:
While this new cocktail spot on the quickly-morphing Washington Ave. may not house bearded ladies, it certainly has its fill of beards, and the ladies who love them. Set to cater to the new hipster crew invading the Prospect/Crown Heights(Crowspect?) border, Bearded Lady touts itself as "the kind of place that welcomes women drinking cocktails and men putting back a shot-and-a-beer." To that end, a small but evolving list of libations currently includes selections like the "Kinky Krown" (Plymouth gin, Cointreau, lillet blanc, benedictine and lemon juice, $9)—named after the hair salon this space replaced (and hinting that much of the hood's longtime character may soon be relegated to menu item nicknames). The sparse but summery space will soon have a custom eight-draft beer tap to count among its few furnishings, pouring both hard-to-find and local brews. While libations are the focal point, a food menu includes sandwiches and snacks (with plans to expand). But to get the best of both worlds, stop by the Bearded Lady for your pre- (or post!) dinner drinks while grabbing your solid sustenance at the taqueria across the street—while you still can.
