Life is beautiful in Brooklyn. Summer has brought the latest installment of the Beauty Bar franchise there, and it's a huge hit. Instead of the obvious choice—Beauty Bar Bedford Ave—owner Paul Dewitt instead expanded to a pretty edgy block under the JMZ in Bushwick. This little sister feels more petite, sparkly, and colorful than her downtown sibling, while still being decked out with vintage beauty salon equipment. And yes, you can still get a manicure and cocktail for only ten bucks. Lacking the popular backroom dance floor of its predecessor, live bands in front give an indie-rock vibe to this otherwise hip-hop hood. It may mean an epic adventure for field trippers, but attractive locals seem thrilled to have a place to see and be seen. Call it neighborhood beautification.
