Bedlam:
The space on 40 Avenue C may be cursed, and not just because the newest incarnation is named for an old mental hospital in London. Changing from 40C to Battista to Bedlam faster than we can say “liquor license,” the new bar’s celebrity backing may be just what the doctor ordered to draw a crowd (Bedlam arrives courtesy of Anderson Cooper’s main man Benjamin Maisani and comic-book hero Pablo Raimondi). People are alreadly going mad for the phenomenally-nominal drink prices— the cocktail list contains converted modern classics, such as the Negroni, Sidecar or Whiskey Smash, all for under $13! House wine is just five dollars a glass, and a stiff squat of whiskey will cost you seven. In an attempt to “straighten” out the clientele, the owners adorned the place with enough taxidermy to fill a pet cemetery and make any hunter proud. Expect to bump into West Village starlets in the back room and East Village hipsters shaking it Lit-like to music spun by some pretty famous DJs in the main bar. Here’s hoping some proper Bedlam ensues, lest it be another victim of the vacant block.
