Beer Table Pantry:
The thought of grabbing a cold one before catching your Metro-North train is always appealing—until you realize Grand Central pretty much only sells swill in a tallboy can. No longer! Not with the opening of the new Midtown outpost of the Brooklyn favorite, Beer Table. This locale, located in the Graybar Passage of the terminal, tacks “Pantry” onto the end of its name to amplify their olde-timey five-and-dime store feel. They offer beer-rific snacking and pairing items such as pickles, sauerkraut, baked goods, and even spices and vinegar in an effort—quite frankly—to subvert some New York state legalities. But that’s neither here nor there…as for what truly matters, the Pantry has nearly 100 bottles (some stocked in a walk-in fridge, all organized from light to dark, $5-20) with a specific focus on international brews such as Denmark’s Evil Twin and the UK’s J.W. Lees. Additionally, six rotating tap options are available for growler fills—when you’re traveling to the end of the line, sometimes 12 ounces just won’t do.
