Betel: Cocktails often suffer during dinner, and if you're still drinking the fishbowl margarita at Brother Jimmy's, then it's time you shake things up by making your way to Betel in the West Village. At this modern Thai restaurant, you can have your cocktails and eat your baked taro cake too. Mary, the genius behind the bar, serves up drinks so inventive that you’ll skip cocktail hour at your local watering hole where no one actually knows your name, and belly up to the bar for their stellar happy hour which goes from 5pm-7pm and 11pm-close. Make your way past the unmarked entrance and park yourself at a communal table for cocktails that take on a Southeast-Asian spin ($13 glass / $39 liter). The Bold Fashioned (Jameson, Aperol, orange, honey, bitters) and the Southeast Julep (Lucas Bols Genever, Crop Organic Cucumber Vodka, cucumber, Vietnamese mint, lime, palm sugar) are fishbowl-worthy, but we'd rather not go there. |
