Bishops + Barons: Being a cool cocktail lounge isn’t easy when you’re located in between an IHOP and a meatball joint on a stretch best known for NYU watering holes, but Bishops + Barons bucks expectations. With bigwigs from The Gate, Employees Only, and Macau Trading Company involved, it’s little surprise that the extensive list of $13 cocktails is brimming with intricate concoctions to muddle over. The crowd is a mix of downtown scenesters, dolled up college kids, and suits looking for drinks and some small bites (think Crispy Deviled Eggs and Blue Crab Stuffed Artichoke), and, with complexion-flattering dim lighting, red velvet banquets, zebra spotted chairs, glitzy chandeliers, a DJ booth adjacent VIP room, and a friendly staff, it all makes for a very swanky place to kick-start a night.
