Blackstones Pub:
The only downside to having tickets to a great show at Radio City Music Hall? Those desolate hours between 6pm and 8pm when your pre-show drinks are geographically confined to the soul-sucking, debt-inducing nightmare that is Midtown. Although it's a few avenues away on 55th and 2nd, Blackstones Pub is worth the hike. No, there's nothing particularly charming about Blackstone—the main decorative feature is rows of beer-sponsored sports flags, after all—but simply not sucking is enough in this nabe. Cheap beer specials, Midwestern-nice bartenders and room to move around without stepping on someone's alligators makes for a perfectly pleasant few hours. Skip the typical blah-blah bar bites and get messy with the bacon-wrapped BBQ shrimp ($9.95). Wash ‘em down with as many domestic drafts as you can drink before 7pm (they’re only four dollars, so go crazy). The laid-back, playful vibe—including the pull of two pool tables commanding attention in the center of the bar—might just make you skip the opening act.
