Blaggard's Pub (38th St.): A plain green sign outside announces "Irish Pub." And those stock images that instantly came to your mind? Well, they're all correct. With exposed brick walls, stone and hardwood floors, seven flat screens, a jukebox, a clock in the shape of Ireland, and indigenous bartenders in black shirts, you've been here before even if you've never been here before. (You know what we mean). This place is also large, clean and well-lit, which, at the very least, makes it a significant step up from a Blarney Stone. Sure, Blaggard's doesn't exactly sound like a destination, until you somehow end up, work in or (gasp) live in this nightlife-starved area. Because—with eight beers on tap, eleven bottles and a solid happy hour ($4 Guinness, $4 Jameson shots, and half-priced wings)—you'll be glad to have a no-nonsense place to booze. |
