Blue Smoke Battery Park City: Danny Meyer continues his downtown domination with the Battery Park City installment of BBQ joint Blue Smoke. The brain (and bucks) behind fellow BPC newbies Shake Shack and North End Grill, Meyer smartly keeps many of the features from the famed Flatiron original. The main menu takes its cues (literally) from the 27th St. spot, boasting break-out-the-wet-naps barbecue faves like the “magic dust” rubbed Memphis Baby Back ribs ($14.95 half rack), Kansas City spareribs slathered in spicy, smoky KC sauce ($15.95), and the Texas Beef Brisket ($18.95). The bar menu’s similarly patriotic, pouring out all-American bourbons and whiskeys, cross-country craft beers and classic cocktails. Sure, like the original, the Vesey St. eatery’s also decked out with red vinyl booths and dark wood floors, and has an onsite Blue Smoke Bake Shop doling out down-home desserts like the sinful chocolate layer cake ($7.95), but this is no mere ‘cue clone. Exclusive to the downtown den is a slew of new bar snacks from crispy, crunchy salt-&-vinegar pork rinds to bacon-wrapped dates. The snack selection’s great for a quick bite at the bar, but with all the fab, finger-lickin’ barbecue at Blue Smoke, you’ll definitely want more than just a bite.
