64 Rouge
Once Boucarou (the E-Vill's first taste of The MegaLounge), 64 Rouge has both lofty standards and lofty goals to live up to: 1. Keep the uptown boys coming downtown. 2. Lure them in with go-go, Brazilian and belly dancers. 3. Instead of fusing just two cuisines, go for three (French, Italian and Mediterranean). 4. Add a hookah, with an accompanying cocktail list (think libations like the Belle De Jour, a mix of Stoli, Absolut Citrus, watermelon puree and peach liquor, $11) to keep that coal from burning out. 5. Rip out those leather banquettes and replace them with some plush “rouge” seats and drapes. No, we’re not so keen on heading to 64, but we have a hunch who will be: all those “Stanton Social-ites” in search of a new scene. So, if you, like them, are looking for Midtown flavor without messing with the Broadway line, 64 Rouge has your number.

I was actually looking forward to coming here. The space itself is really nice and open. The staff on the other hand were less than cordial, and would actually compel me to bypass this place in favor of the many other lounges in the area.

Furthermore, the owners of Boucarou apparently feel that false advertising is an acceptable business practice to bring in customers. On their website and on flyers that they hand out, they clearly promote "a complimentary open bar (FREE) from 9pm to 10pm" every Wednesday... which is a lie.

My friend and I went to check this out last Wednesday, and we were immediately told that the free open bar was conveniently not happening that night. However, we were informed that we could pay $25 for their bar special instead. A very shady case of bait 'n switch.

Both the bartender and the hostess were incredibly condescending making it seem like I was the one who made a mistake and read the wrong promotion. This was even the case after I politely pointed out a flyer that they visibly had in the bar.

I still don't understand why a place that was practically empty at 9pm would be so deceitful and rude to customers who simply want to enjoy a nice evening in the East Village.

Oh... I should also point out that the only form of air conditioning that they had when we were there was a large fan over the bar. The place was boiling hot.

Boucarou definitely failed my expectation. I wouldn't believe any promises or promotions they make after this experience.

This place has a great overall atmosphere. It is spacious and they play great music. However, the bartender girl with the long brown hair tacked on a $4 tip to my bill which included only 2 drinks. I thought that was terribly sneaky. It's like, let me decide what you should be given (especially on a two-drink bill). When I confronted her about it, she was quite rude, shrugged her shoulders, and said, "TO be honest, a lot of bars do that in the city." That is a BLATANT lie. Maybe on parties of 6 or more at a restaurant. BUT not at a bar where you are charged 24 bucks for two measly little drinks. I've been in the food business for a long time. I doubt her boss would be psyched to hear that. It's the principle here people...Other than that though, great times!

Threw a b-day party in the VIP room a few weeks ago. Great time. Owner Patrice is a great person to deal with and will help with anythign that he can. Staff is awesome, and Sheila is the nicest person I have ever met. Totally go and check out the hot crowd. Even better, throw a party here folks!

I organized a friend's birthday celebration here on a Friday night and the service was impeccable. Everything was perfect, from the courteous correspondence with owner Patrice to the swift access granted to all gustlisted invitees. This new space has a fresh sleek, swanky, decor. The bar is cool but with efficient par tenders but I would reccommed bottle service. Our bottles were delivered promptly and accompanying mixers n ice refilled regulary. On the night we were there the DJ MOMA was on the ones and two's, he masterfully had the crowd moving with a sensational mix of old School-new school Hip Hop/dancehall/ world beats making for a long night of grooving with laid back people. The food is great too. Check this place out,you won't regret it. Might want to call in advance to find out what the musical theme for the night is.
