Boulud Sud: Until now, the Daniel Boulud restaurant empire has consisted of spots you’ve only heard about, have never been to and don’t even really know how to pronounce (“Boooo-lahd Sud”). But believe it or not, Daniel Boulud’s newest outpost is...are you ready…actually somewhat affordable. Steps from Lincoln Center, it emphasizes high-class fare and, obviously, gentlemen in tuxedoes. The long and wide-open room is quite comfortable and hardly pretentious, though it is ripe with old-boy types. The Mediterranean menu breaks down into “From the Garden,” “From the Sea” and “From the Farm” and is priced From $13, From $25 and From $25, respectively. A small bar and lounge offers apt cocktails like the champagne-based Lincoln Spritzer (all $14), an adventurous beer menu (Jenlain Biere de Mars, $8), and a massive wine list with options starting as low as $25 a bottle and creeping into “rich guy” territory with some vintage stuff. Stick to the low end of things and you, too, can say you’ve eaten at a Boulud joint.
