Bourbon Street Bar & Grill: Before you start envisioning drunken frat boys slinging beads on braless women, relax. This spot has nothing to do with the Mardi-Gras themed bar of the same name on the Upper West. From the outside, Bourbon Street oozes N’awlins charm, standing out along restaurant row with wrought iron balconies that mimic the architecture of the French Quarter. Inside, the space boasts unconventionally high ceilings and elegant fleur du lis wall paper, while the requisite Mardi Gras paraphernalia are thankfully restricted to just behind the bar. While this spot may sideline as a restaurant offering some authentic Cajun dishes, the real draw is the drink specials. With a happy hour featuring 2 for 1 drafts of brews like Louisiana’s Abita Turbo Dog, $5 cocktails, and $5 hurricanes until 10pm, it won’t be hard to do what the New Orleanian’s do best…get your buzz on. The oversized food portions and overly sweet drinks make the spot feel like a Southern version of TGI Fridays, but that may be more authentic than we think…after all, have you ever been to the real Bourbon Street? |
