Branded Saloon:
Old West-style Branded Saloon has struck gold with Prospect Heights’ burgeoning young professional crowd. Teeming with twenty/thirty-somethings looking to fall off the wagon, the three-roomed bar's decor is thematic but not cheesy. Hitch your horse to the front bar and tie on one of the 12 beers ($5-$7) on tap. Check out the wagon-wheel-and-lantern chandeliers and the antique guns while feasting on hot wings ($9 for 10) and burgers ($8) that you didn't even have to hunt for. If you find yourself in the back room on a night without live music, play a little ragtime for your friends on the piano. Since saloons didn't really have basements, Branded's creators took liberties with theirs, which is more 1980s than 1880s—wood paneled walls, padded benches and a concrete floor encasing a pool table, plus a shoot-‘em-up arcade game, darts and a plastic jukebox. It may remind you of your coolest high school friend’s basement, but no parents will be coming home tonight, so order up a bourbon and plan to miss your curfew.
