Brasilina: In Hells Kitchen, a neighborhood that’s stuffed with both international cuisines and Mom-and-Pop restos, it’s no wonder that we find both at once in its newest spot, Brasiliana. The “nuevo” Brazilian joint is a total family affair, owned by mother Silvanei Silveira who delegates her daughter as the chef and has her son manage the spot to earn his allowance. The menu features classics like fried yucca sticks ($10) and ceviche ($14) as well as more avant-garde nibbles like citric shrimp and lobster risotto ($28). Like any Brazilian spot worth its cachaca, Brasiliana serves killer caipirinhas ($8), but they also offer up American tipples like craft beer (Allagash and Smuttynose, $7), fresh fruit martinis ($14), plenty of wine ($9-14), and an intriguing “brunch anytime” cocktail menu featuring drinks like the jalapeno Bloody Maria ($13). For a family affair, it’s certainly alcoholic...which, needless to say, is fine by us!
