Brasserie Athenée:
Despite a Greek owner, a name that gives a nod to Athens, and its status as a former Greek restaurant, this Hell’s Kitchen brasserie is now 100% French — complete with steak frites, crème brûlée, and glasses of Côtes du Rhône. It may be a suspect makeover, but this new incarnation deserves more than its current plight: mostly catering to the touristy theater crowd. For one thing, drinkers get some cool visuals: Two entire walls are mostly glass — including the one behind the bar — which means the shelved bottles of Grand Marnier and Remy Martin are silhouetted against the backdrop of bustling Eighth Avenue. Classic French pop a la Françoise Hardy and Edith Piaf add to the ooh-la-la vibe, hopefully not obliterated by the British soccer and Ultimate Fighting Championship highlights flickering on the corner flatscreen. Still, Times Square office drones looking for quick escapism could do a lot worse. Open daily 6:30am-1am.
I saw this place a while ago and looked up some reviews about it just for the fun of it. I don't trust reviews much because you don't know what kind of person wrote them (cranky etc). When I stopped by with a couple of friends I really liked it. Tasty, well presented food, nice wine, good service what's not to like. Everyone got to their show on time! Ill definitely be going back!2 thumbs up
