Breukelen Bier Merchants: With a selection that far exceeds that of your local deli, Breukelen Bier Merchants is sure to become a neighborhood staple for beer lovers looking for some brews on the go or a place to revel in the glory of the foamy amber gods with fellow enthusiasts. Breukelen is part specialty beer shop, part bar, part hangout, carrying 16 rotating craft beers on tap, all from small, independent breweries (most domestic, some local). The main draw is the Growler, a reusable to-go beer jug (experiencing a trendy resurgence since the pre-Prohibition era), which runs from $12-17 and contains the equivalent of four pints. For a larger, more exotic selection, choose from over 500 bottled and chilled craft beers, most of which will only set you back $2.50 or less (you can also mix and match your own six pack). For those not in a hurry, save a fortune (in comparison to over-priced drinks elsewhere) by enjoying the bottled beers over picnic-style wooden tables in the front and back of the store, or have a beer flight ($8), which allows you to sample four of the brews on tap. If that’s not enough, Breukelen has board games and WiFi, a soon-to-open backyard beer garden and a selection of hearty snacks (soft Bavarian pretzels, assorted cheese plates and German Bratwurst). And with beer-infused cupcakes to boot, there’s really no reason to ever leave.
