Brindle Room:
You’d expect the sister joint to cocktail bar par excellence Employee’s Only to be way dark and way chic, but Brindle Room is focused more on being a comfortable, friendly contrast to places that serve frilly drinks. Drinks are actually a bit of a footnote: a small beer ($4-7) and wine ($9-10 a glass) selection with a few additional cocktails (like the sake and jalapeno Tokyo Springtime, $10). Brindle’s most popular beverages are individually-brewed cups of coffee, which guests luxuriate over while using the free WiFi. There are some small plates like chicken liver mousse ($7) but the main portions are large and intentionally sharable, eclectic American and Canadian comfort food such as fried chicken ($21) and the rib-eye for two ($44). However, Brindle Room’s iconic, or perhaps iconoclastic, items are their served-round-the-clock donuts in such out-there flavors as chocolate hazelnut and caramel ($1.50 each) and their we’ll-Tweet-when-it’s-available poutine ($13). But no need to wait for a special Tweet—Brindle Room is great any time.
