Brooklyn Bridge Gardens:
Everyone knows the Brooklyn Bridge boasts more fanny packs than a tour bus at the Taj Majal, but out-of-town relations are bound to drag you across it every once in awhile. Save yourself the agony of the hour wait at Grimaldi’s and head one block north to the brand new Brooklyn Bridge Garden instead. While its blasé beige decor and staple pub drink list won’t scare off rural Americans, the spacious garden is pleasant and the food is just interesting enough (mussels in curry sauce, corn-and-raisin meatballs) to satisfy New Yorker’s palates. You’ll pay a bit more than you should for just about everything—a glass of wine starts at $10—but it’s still the most economical dining option in the land of the $5 ATM charge. With the bridge right overhead, ivy crawling up the brick walls and trees strung with lights, you might not blame your rellies for videotaping the entire outing.
