Brooklyn Winery:
Oh Williamsburg, home of graffiti art, skinny jeans, indie rock and...local wines? So hope the partners behind Brooklyn Winery, laying their casks down for aging in an unlikely place. The North 8th Street's bona-fide winery offers tours as well as courses on creating your own custom wine—from choosing the type of grape to press to choosing the type of label to press onto the bottle. Not into working for your wine? Brooklyn Winery's bar pours 3oz and 6oz samples from France, Italy, Germany, California ($4.50-$18) and soon, on tap from their own back room. The expected air of exclusivity is nowhere to be felt in the multi-roomed tasting area that more closely resembles a beer garden than a wine bar. Wooden communal tables, a neighborhood-bar vibe, vintage 1940s decor and a munchies menu via local foodie favorite Radish create a chill but sophisticated place for whiling away a wintry afternoon. Those golden hills of California ain't got nothing on the grit-and-grapes of the ‘burg.
