Brother Jimmy's Union Square: Maybe you've been drinking fishbowls at Brother Jimmy's since you graduated from NYU…a decade ago. Or maybe you're a recent southern transplant who just wants a taste of home. Either way, you’ll notice that as you get older, your fellow brisket-eaters stay the same age—about 22. Apparently the owners of Brother Jimmy's noticed that too, and their new Union Square location attempts to cater to a more mature clientele. A larger, more open dining area, outdoor seating, and a long, sleek bar make it look more restaurant and less crab shack (don’t worry the requisite kitsch is still intact). But the main addition to their newest project is “Live Music Wednesdays” featuring former American Idol contestant Sarah Mather belting out southern favorites and a special “Bourbon & Burgers” menu so cheap it would appeal, ironically, to the wallets of the young and less well-established. The $5 cocktails, despite creative names such as “Sweet Melissa” and “Hair of the Dog,” pretty much all taste the same—like whiskey. But hey, when you only have a couple of bucks, isn’t it the booze you care about? Brother Jimmy’s Union Square may be more geared towards “adults," but the usual younger clientele are going to love it, too. |
