Brouwerij Lane:
The name? It's Flemish for "Brewery,"—seemingly an odd choice for a Polish neighborhood. The place itself is mixed, too: part quaint little bar, part specialized beer retailer. In fact, Brouwerij has a license for "on-premise tasting," allowing customers to sample and enjoy pints and half-pints from 19 different drafts before taking some home. Finally, a place where a $2 beer is actually delicious...especially when enjoyed on the small janky stool next to the roaring fireplace. Once you find a brew you like (and you will), you can bring it home in a custom 64-ounce jug called a "growler." These jugs o' brew range from $12 to $20, though Brouwerij also stocks three coolers worth of pre-bottled beer, including a whole column devoted to Belgium. But they also sell obscure yankee brouws—from Ithaca's Pale Ale to Smuttynose Winter Ale—so for you "buy American" types, there's no need to growl.
