Bruar Falls: Occupying the space left behind by plucky live music cafe The Lucky Cat, the owners of Cake Shop have kept the vibe intact with Bruar Falls. At least initially, you'll be coming to see some live music, so don't be thrown off when the first thing you see at this Grand Street spot is a modest, dim front room, dominated by the glow of a pinball machine. Because in back, an artfully ramshakle stage, lit like one of Andy Warhol's fever dreams, hosts an ecelctic and well-curated roster of indie and underground bands. The sound is a major improvement over that of its previous occupants, and the bar, featuring the usual, unremarkable roster of cheap beers, is affordable enough to greatly enhance your capacity for music appreciation. So if you know of someone playing here, go, because this is already one of those “I saw them when...” places. |
