Bull & Bear @ The Waldorf-Astoria Hotel:
Sometimes you’ve got to pull out the stops and go fancy. No, not leaving-Williamsburg-for-the-Lower-East-Side-fancy, but old New York, top-hat-and-tie kind of fancy. The Bull and Bear has been a knickerbockers (as well as tourist) destination since the Waldorf-Astoria opened in 1893. Known for its generous helpings of Angus beef and its excellent martinis, the Bull has not lost an ounce of class. And even though this place still holds its head high, many of the blue-shirted business travelers and ritzy families from Kansas who stay at the Waldorf (now a Hilton hotel) snarf a little too loudly about “good ol’ New York City” as they order another cosmo and a well-done Porterhouse. So New Yorkers, get out there and show ’em how it’s done.
