Sick of the East 70s frat-boy bar bonanza? Head on over to Bullpen NYC, the bar where everybody knows your name (and probably your shoe size, cousins, and how you like your burger cooked). Special touches like homemade pickled vegetables in your Bloody Mary or the manager downloading a song on the spot to fill your request, make it worth giving up another night at Brother Jimmy’s. What it lacks in décor—think cookie cutter pub with yellow walls and lights about 40 watts too strong for seduction—it makes up for in warmth and spirit (and in $10 Mimosa pitchers on Sundays and $10 Bud and Bud Light pitchers ‘round the clock). A true neighborhood joint, locals mingle with the occasional straggler hailing from below, say, 83rd street, but it's no wonder they’ve attracted such a devout following—a breezy outdoor garden complete with a gorgeous flat-screen TV, great grub and heavy-handed bartenders pouring out vodka sodas (in pint glasses), ensure that the ‘pen makes for a solid second living room.
