Bunga's Den:
We're not sure who Bunga is—we're guessing somebody's weird uncle—but if this is his Den, his living room must be a TGI Friday’s. For starters: Check out the signs. "Beer gives you energy" is posted helpfully above the bar. "Think it / Dream It / Do It" might come in handy if you're pondering that fourth round. But you don't need signage to see this Den has "future dive" written all over it, and—considering it shares ownership with nearby Johnny's (one of our favorite watering holes)—that's clearly the intent. The tap n' bottle selection sticks with the tried and true (Brooklyn Lager, Coors Light, et al) and it's working-class priced ($3.25 to $5.50) for your enjoyment. And if sometimes you want to go where everybody learns your name, this is the place; the incredibly outgoing bartenders work the room with elan (you will end up meeting all the people sitting next to you). Throw in a funk-o-centric juke box, unnaturally blue walls and other weird crap and Bunga's Den has all the makings of a fun spot. In that uncle kind of way.
Great selection and prices. Bartenders are friendly, service is good and it is located between two train stops on 14th. Close to good food stops as well.
