Cafe Andalucia: In the midst of Ninth Avenue muck sits Café Andalucia, a Spanish version of the ’hood’s watering holes. Eighties music mixed with Spanish tunes and the buzz of a spinning metal fan are the soundtrack to another of the neighborhood’s happy hour-celebrating, cramped dives. This one, though, serves tapas. A long list of them, including garlic shrimp, tortilla Espanola, and vegetarian wrappers, is available, but most people come for the 30-plus beers, 20-bottle Spanish and Argentinean wine selection, and sangria by the carafe. The fruity vino definitely trumps the food and the mediocre margaritas. Coffee and desserts are also on the menu, and the joint is a WiFi hotspot. There’s a lot of oddball charm to this hodgepodge hangout.
