Capitale:
When your party is just too important to be trusted to a club where a general manager may insist on “helping” with various aspects of your event, this grand rental space is where you go. Built as the Bowery Savings Bank in 1893, this masculine structure has seen nearly countless tweaks and transformations over the past 111 years, but its limestone exterior, tall Corinthian columns, and Frederick MacMonnies’ sculptures remain. Aside from a 10,000-square-foot grand ballroom that holds up to 1,500 people under a heavenly Tiffany glass skylight, Capitale boasts four private rooms that are also available for more “modest” private functions. From the fashion world’s A-list to hip-hop’s golden rap sheet, everybody has partied here.
DON'T DO IT! This place oversells their tickets and they do not mind charging an arm and a leg for NOTHING! All I remember are people falling all over us, drinks spilled on my New Years dress due to crowding AND starving to death because it was a minimal wait of an hour in line to get anything to eat or drink. Are you kidding me? This place is horrid. If you decide to make the worst decision of your life and spend your New Years here, I would suggest not wearing open toed shoes since a few broken toes are inevitable. Anorexics and recovering alcoholics would do well here.

Julie P. says:
We had the unfortunate experience of going to Capitale for New Year's Eve 2003. They oversold it by about a million people; you couldn't get to the bar or buffet b/c it was too crowded; firemen kept showing up b/c we were over-code. We paid a huge sum of money for drinks and food which we never received. Waiters, bartenders? Never saw any. It was the WORST NEW YEAR'S OF MY LIFE! BEWARE! Someone should report them to the BBB. Surely this has to be illegal? I wouldn't even give it a half-star rating.
